Manama, October 3 (BNA): Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has cut a major milestone in its journey towards becoming a carbon-neutral facility, meeting all requirements to upgrade to Level 3 “optimal”, as stipulated by Airports Council International. (ACI) Airport Carbon Certification Program.
Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) held a ceremony honoring the airport stakeholders and the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team for their commitment and contributions towards achieving this milestone.
The program is the only institutionally approved carbon management certification standard for airports and recognizes facilities that successfully manage and reduce their carbon footprints.
The program has four increasingly strict levels of accreditation, mapping, reduction, optimization, and neutrality.
To achieve Level 3 certification, airports must meet all Level 1 and 2 requirements.
“I would like to thank our Health, Safety and Environment team and stakeholders for their dedicated efforts and significant contributions in achieving this important milestone,” said Bahrain Airport Company CEO, Mohammed Yousef Al-Binfalah, who handed over the certificates of appreciation at the ceremony.

“ACI recently launched a long-term study of the carbon target for global airports to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. At Level 3, airports are required to engage third parties in managing their carbon footprint, including airlines, service providers such as independent ground handling companies, catering companies, air traffic control, and other airport site workers.
