The Associated Press (AP) reported that Bay hit a three-pointer running back as time expired after Golden State’s Klay Thompson tied it at 3 with 2.3 seconds left, sending the Detroit Pistons past the Warriors 122-119 Wednesday night.
“It was hard, I don’t even remember passing out a bit,” Bey said. “I had one second, so I didn’t have a lot of time to think, so I had to pick it up, so I’m thankful it came in.”
Detroit ended the defending champions’ injury-plagued winning streak at five straight. NBA Finals winner Stephen Curry missed his 10th consecutive game with a partial left shoulder dislocation and is scheduled to be rechecked Saturday at the two-week mark from his last evaluation.
“I just told the guys how proud I am of them for keeping the fort these last few weeks,” said coach Steve Kerr.
Bay made another 3 Keys late and ended up with 17 points, Bogdanovic hit the first five three-pointers and one with 3:42 left on his way to 29 points to lead the Six Pistons in double figures.
“The friend opened up again and had a big brain to get rid of him fast enough,” Pistons coach Duane Casey said.
Thompson got a defensive rebound with 27 seconds left, but Jordan Paul turned the ball over before the Warriors could attempt a shot.
Thompson scored on a layup with 40 seconds left to lead Golden State to 117-116 and then served again as the Warriors looked headed to overtime for the second straight game after beating Atlanta 143-141 in double overtime Monday night.
“I never feel comfortable,” Thompson said. “I thought we fought really hard tonight.”
Additional basketball would be welcome as a harsh winter rain and windstorm batter the Bay Area to greet fans afterwards.
Thompson missed his first six 3-point attempts and then hit two big points along the way to 30 points, but the Warriors were unable to play key defensive play late in the season against the Detroit shooters. Thompson gave the go-ahead with 7:33 to play and finally hit the first 3-pointer with 5:15 remaining of his season-best 54-point performance against the Hawks.
Draymond Green was sacked with 1:24 to play for his second tech of the game.
Paul added 24 points for his seventh consecutive 20-point game to go with six assists and five rebounds, as the Warriors fell to 17-3 at home as their six-win streak at Chase Center came to an end.
Jalen Durin added 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons after losing 135-106 to Portland on Monday night.
Lightning Golden State once again showed their incredible depth as T. Jerome scored 18 points off the bench and Anthony Lamb added 17.
Lamb credited Bay with getting through the Warriors’ converted defense: “He had just enough time to stop him, turning a shot, a great shot by him.”
Killian Hayes hit a 3-pointer with 6:21 left and contributed 13 assists and nine points as he returned to Detroit’s starting lineup after a three-game suspension for his rowdy actions against Orlando last week.
