Manama, March 30 (BNA): Parliament Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal and Shura Council Speaker Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh held a press conference on the Kingdom of Bahrain’s hosting of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union scheduled to be held in March 2023.
The spokesman stressed that choosing Bahrain to host such a prestigious parliamentary event is evidence of the confidence that the Kingdom enjoys, and the good standing it has gained with the international community and the international community, as this achievement would not have been achieved. Without the great support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Zainal stressed that the Kingdom’s readiness won the praise and appreciation of the IPU officials who visited the Kingdom during the past months, where they were briefed on the features of comprehensive development and the growing democratic experience.
She pointed out that hosting this global event is an indication of the fruitful cooperation and partnership relationship between the legislative authority in Bahrain and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives noted the effective presence of the Bahraini Parliamentary Division in the union committees, as the Kingdom today includes four members in these committees.
The Shura Council Speaker affirmed that the Kingdom’s hosting of the General Assembly No. 146 is evidence that Bahrain is a democratic country with values and principles of human rights, coexistence and tolerance, and is recognized by the largest democratic and parliamentary organization in the world.
He pointed out that this approval reinforces His Majesty the King’s reform project, and confirms that the Kingdom has fulfilled all the conditions and requirements to host the meetings of the Union.
Al-Saleh stressed that the Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy had an impact and presence in all international meetings, and is in line with the governmental efforts headed by His Highness the Crown Prince, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others. The parliamentary meetings are large and influential, whether at the level of participation of the Parliamentary Division or in other meetings in which members of the Shura and Representatives Councils participate.
The Speaker of the Shura Council said that the presence of more than 2,000 parliamentarians and international observers in the Kingdom to attend the event will constitute an opportunity to show Bahrain and its values of tolerance, coexistence and openness to dialogue, and will give all countries of the world. The opportunity to get to know the Kingdom and its people closely.
Al-Saleh expressed his confidence in Bahrain’s ability to host the next Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, praising the good reputation and prestigious position that the Kingdom enjoys at the regional and international levels.
