Bahrain voters head to polls on Saturday

Manama, November 11 (BNA) Bahraini voters will head to the polling stations tomorrow, Saturday, to elect members of the House of Representatives for the sixth legislative session and members of municipal councils, amid fierce competition between candidates in all electoral districts.

Head of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Department, Executive Director of the 2022 elections, Counselor Nawaf Abdullah Hamza, said that all organizational preparations have been completed, under full judicial supervision, to receive citizens at the polling stations to cast their votes and choose their parliamentary and municipal representatives.

And 344,713 eligible Bahraini voters will choose their representatives, including 40 members of the House of Representatives and 30 members of municipal councils, out of 507 candidates according to the final lists.

These elections witness a wide participation of Bahraini women, as the number of female candidates in the parliamentary and municipal elections has doubled compared to the previous elections, with a total of 94 female candidates.

Bahraini youth also play an important role in this year’s parliamentary and municipal elections, whether they are candidates or voters.

During the electoral campaign period, voters visited the electoral tents of independent candidates and representatives of political associations, to see their programs that focused mainly on economic and national issues.

The judges of the Supreme Committee for Supervising the Integrity of Elections announced the participation of 11 civil society organizations in monitoring the parliamentary and municipal elections, noting that the number of observers reached 449.

It is worth noting that Bahraini voters residing abroad began casting their votes last Tuesday, as the numbers showed a greater voter turnout compared to the previous elections.
