LMRA receives US Congress staff delegation

Manama, October 26 (BNA) The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) received a delegation from the US Congress as part of their official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The delegation visited the Expatriates Protection Center of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, in the presence of officials from the Labor Market Regulatory Authority and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation was briefed on the latest developments in the labor market in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the role of the authority in providing a safe and stable environment for expatriates, and Bahrain’s commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting workers from exploitation, in line with international treaties and agreements related to human rights and labor.

The delegation was briefed on the objectives and role of the Expatriates Protection Center, which is the first comprehensive and specialized facility of its kind in the Middle East.

The center provides advice, legal services and shelter for victims and potential victims of human trafficking crimes or any form of exploitation, and maintains labor rights in accordance with the best international standards and practices.

Labor Market Regulatory Authority officials identified legal mechanisms and executive steps aimed at strengthening Bahrain’s efforts to combat human trafficking and preserve the rights of labor parties.

The Labor Market Regulatory Authority presented its strategies for implementing the wage protection system, the voluntary insurance system for domestic workers, in addition to the registration program in cooperation with the private sector, in addition to intensifying inspection campaigns to confront any illegal practices in the labor market.

The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has demonstrated its efforts in raising awareness and providing guidance to workers by informing them of all their rights and obligations. In addition, the Labor Market Regulatory Authority provides each worker with a SIM card when they enter the Kingdom of Bahrain to provide a channel of communication and allow each worker to receive informational messages from the Labor Market Regulatory Authority in their native languages. These messages contain reminders of all available communication channels, including the call center assigned to the authority.
