Bahrain to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Manama, Dec. 2 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain, along with the rest of the world, celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992, to be celebrated on the third of December.

The occasion aims to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in all social and developmental aspects, highlight international efforts in this regard, and promote awareness of the importance of integrating persons with disabilities into societies.

This year’s international celebration is centered around innovation and solutions to achieve inclusive growth, particularly Goals 8 and 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

And to celebrate this occasion, the Minister of Social Development, Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al-Asfoor, emphasized the superior care and support for people with disabilities in the Kingdom of Bahrain thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He pointed out that Bahrain was one of the first countries to ratify the Convention on the Rights of this Category of People, out of keenness to fully integrate them and protect their rights.

The minister explained that work is underway to launch the executive plan for the National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities for the five years (2022-2026) to continue implementing more projects and programs that support the rights of people of determination, in cooperation with the Supreme Authority. The Committee of Persons with Disabilities, all official and private bodies concerned with their affairs and the United Nations Office.
