Manama, October 20 (BNA): The French Embassy, in partnership with the Royal University of Women (RUW) and Alliance Française, is organizing a fashion week from October 24-30.
The history of natural pearls in Bahrain with the participation of luxury industry with CEO of Danat Noura Jamsheer and the Matar family and the Al Mahmoud family.
On October 25, Bahraini designers will share their history, journey, vision, wishes and work through an exhibition of their creativity and media talk.
The event will feature Nouf Al Shakar, entrepreneur and owner of NS by Noof and Perla Perfumes Bahrain, Aisha Abdul Malik, an up-and-coming Bahraini designer who launched her brand in 2014 under the name Aisha Jawaher at the age of 17, and Nada and Noor who formed Enada and Mark Esfahani.
On October 26, a documentary on the history of ELLE magazine will be shown in the Alliance Française.
The documentary will focus on the founding of ELLE, its 60-year joint history with feminism, and its regular presence in the history of fashions and trends.
On October 27, Valerian van der Norda, expert and consultant on sustainability in the world of luxury and fashion, and Sherine Fikri, co-founder of a company aiming to normalize sustainable fashion practices for consumers in the GCC, will speak about fast fashion, the overconsumption of clothing and accessories.
On October 28, students from RUW will join acting director and fashion consultant Ines Jord and director of press relations and communications Valerian van der Norda for a conversation about understanding how fashion shows are an essential part of the fashion industry.
The week will end with three main events, starting with Shopping Monsters – a two-hour shopping marathon in pairs.
Participants create a complete look from head to toe, take a photo with their partners and present their final look to the jury.
The creations of Bahraini designers will be placed at their disposal, and hairdressers and makeup artists will help them complete the look.
In the afternoon, Khamis Benlakhdar, teacher of fashion history at the Institut Français du Situation in Paris, will speak about the influence of the Arab-Muslim world on Parisian haute couture.
In the evening, a fashion show will be held to highlight the creativity of female students at the Royal University of Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design for Women.
The collection will showcase clothing and accessories with traditional Bahraini roots with the aesthetics of international fashion, including the ‘jalabiya’ and ‘the thobe’ – traditional Bahraini clothing for women and men respectively.
A contemporary and contemporary collection, designed, developed and inspired by RUW students, will also be presented.
