Goalball is a game for people with visual impairments, players attempt to score goals by shooting a 1.25kg ball with precision and accuracy across the field and defending shots from the opposing team using their whole body, throwing themselves to the ground in the correct position.

Athletes wear eye shields to ensure a level playing field as completely blind athletes compete with and against those with less severe – but still severe – visual impairments. The ball has several bells so that players can locate it. In addition, the goal ball field is marked with raised lines so that players can sense their position at any time.
