Bahrain; Sri Lanka hold political consultations

Manama, October 21 (BNA) The first round of political consultations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka was held remotely.

The virtual session was co-chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Admiral Professor Jayanath Columbag.

During the meeting, Dr. Sheikh Abdullah praised the qualitative progress witnessed in the relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the interest of the two friendly countries and peoples.

He referred to the recent meeting that brought together the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his Sri Lankan counterpart on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (UNGA 76).

The Undersecretary for Political Affairs stressed the importance of periodic bilateral consultations to activate the signed agreements and take advantage of the promising opportunities available to the two friendly countries, in addition to joint coordination at the level of multilateral relations and regional and international organizations.

For his part, the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his country’s aspiration to develop friendship and cooperation relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain in various fields, praising the distinguished and meticulous care that the Sri Lankan community enjoys in the Kingdom.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka residing in New Delhi, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Qaoud, Head of Afro-Asian Affairs, and Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen and the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Sri Lanka. Kingdom of Bahrain Mrs. Pradiba Sram and a number of officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
