This came within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s participation in the eleventh session of the World Urban Forum (WUF11) in Poland.
The session will be held under the auspices of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) from 26 June to 30 June.
Humaidan explained that the strategy aims to double the number of trees in Bahrain by 2035 through the expansion of afforestation projects in various streets and intersections, and municipal and government projects.
She said that the approved strategy aims to double the number of trees from 1.8 million currently to nearly 3.6 million trees by 2035.
This comes in line with Bahrain’s commitments to the goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).
She explained that the afforestation strategy included large evergreen trees due to their suitability to the climatic conditions of the Kingdom and their low water consumption.
