Manama, May 31 (BNA) The Patron of the National Evangelical Church and the President of the White Banners Society, Reverend Hani Aziz, praised Bahrain as a unique model for coexistence, religious tolerance and freedom. He was speaking on the sidelines of the conference “Expanding the Tent: Freedom of Religion and Belief” organized by the Kingdom of Bahrain and the European Union under the auspices of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Rev. Hani Aziz praised Bahrain’s leading position as a land of peace, tolerance and acceptance of the other under the leadership of His Majesty the King. He praised the role of His Majesty the King in promoting peaceful coexistence, religious freedom and tolerance, noting that religious freedom is guaranteed in the National Action Charter and the Constitution, which are the basis of legislation. He pointed out that the conference brings together many local institutions and civil society representatives in the European Union to deepen the common understanding of religious freedom and enhance humanitarian cooperation on the basis of pluralism and diversity.
Reverend Hani Aziz said that he looks forward to holding the conference annually, noting the positive impressions of the European Union representatives on peaceful coexistence and interfaith and intercultural dialogue in the Kingdom. He pointed out that the conference will contribute further to enhancing the Kingdom’s image as a land of peaceful coexistence and a model for religious freedom and pluralism.
