Bahrain Football Association condemns abuse of workers’ rights in Qatar

Manama, November 21 (BNA) The Bahrain Football Association denounced the abuse of expatriates in various sectors in Qatar, especially in the construction sites of the 2022 World Cup stadiums.

The recent international reports and statements issued by the European federations criticized the deteriorating conditions of workers, denouncing the State of Qatar for violating the legitimate rights of workers.

In a new report released by Amnesty International about 5 days ago, Amnesty International said that the daily reality for many foreign workers remains harsh.

A statement by the Boao Forum for Asia stressed the need to improve the conditions of the hard-working workers who suffer in their daily lives, seeing their wages drop and the violation of their basic labor rights.

And human rights organizations called for intervention and holding the State of Qatar responsible in order to protect workers who live in a dangerous environment that lacks the simplest means of securing their lives.

Citing frequent media reports revealing grave violations, the Bahrain Football Association expressed deep concern over the appalling death toll among workers in facilities, infrastructure and stadiums in the State of Qatar.

Recent international reports said that thousands of workers have died, which confirms that migrant workers are deprived of their most basic human rights, and are forced to pay a heavy price.

In a statement, the Boao Forum for Asia stated that “reports and figures confirm that the steps taken by the State of Qatar are insufficient to protect the rights of workers and improve their conditions,” calling for the protection of migrant workers from violations and exploitation by Qatari companies.
