Bahrain attends OIC conference for heads of constitutional courts

Istanbul, Dec. 25 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the Third Conference of Presidents of Constitutional Courts of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The President of the Constitutional Court, Counselor Abdullah bin Hassan Al Buainain, headed the Bahraini delegation to the conference, which was held on December 22 and 25 in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The delegation also included the Deputy President of the Constitutional Court, Judge Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla, Judge Ali Abdullah Al-Duwaishan, and the Director of Coordination and Follow-up, Munther Sami Al-Jowder.

132 participants representing 34 countries, including seven Arab countries, participated in the conference.

Al-Buainain delivered a speech in which he presented an overview of the history and development of judicial control over the constitutionality of laws and regulations in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

He pointed out that the history of the establishment of judicial oversight over the constitutionality of laws and regulations in the Kingdom dates back to the constitution that was promulgated on December 6, 1973.

He added that the law and the constitution guaranteed members of the Constitutional Court immunity from removal, in addition to all the guarantees, privileges, rights and duties prescribed for the judges of the Court of Cassation, and made the General Assembly of the Supreme Judicial Council.
