Bahrain attends Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership

Amman, Dec. 20 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, led the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the second session of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership.

His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein of Jordan presided over the ceremony that was held today at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea.

The Egyptian and French presidents participated in the conference, along with the Kuwaiti and Iraqi prime ministers and the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

In his speech before the session, Dr. Al-Zayani conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King, hoping that the conference would produce positive results that support cooperation that benefits the Republic of Iraq.

He affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to support international cooperation and partnership in support of Iraq to preserve its security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to restore its pivotal role in the Arab, regional and international arenas.

He stressed that “the security and stability of the Republic of Iraq is an integral part of our Gulf and Arab national security, and a fundamental pillar of stability, peaceful coexistence, and effective economic integration in this vital and strategic region of the world.”

He expressed Bahrain’s support for Iraq to defeat terrorist groups and armed militias, to prevent the use of its lands to threaten Arab national security, and to reject any external interference in its internal affairs, or to violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He called for strengthening regional cooperation and effective partnership among all countries in the region on the basis of the principle of good neighborliness and mutual respect in accordance with international law, to give priority to dialogue and the settlement of disputes by peaceful means.

He praised the tripartite cooperation mechanism between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Iraq, stressing the importance of the agreed economic projects.

He praised the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Republic of Iraq in implementing joint development projects in the field of electrical interconnection and transportation.
