Manama, March 23 (BNA): The Bahrain-Qatar Causeway is considered one of the most important strategic and development projects to enhance the economic development of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, strengthen relations between the peoples of the two countries in particular, and push the pace. Gulf Cooperation and Integration.
Bahrain supported the project, believing in the importance of its economic objectives and its strategic importance to both parties.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2005 to start the project, a joint venture was formed and entrusted with managing, maintaining and operating the bridge and investing in its facilities.
The Kingdom has committed itself to attending the periodic meetings of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Causeway Corporation – Qatar to discuss all matters related to the construction of the bridge after the stage of locating and completing the basic engineering designs.
Bahrain renews its commitment to continue supporting the Bahrain Causeway Foundation – Qatar, its activities and work, despite the Kingdom’s feeling that Qatar has an intention to dissolve it.
Bahrain’s position was clear in the statement of the Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post on March 21 about the importance of the Bahrain Bridge Corporation continuing to work on developing designs and operational plans.
He pointed out that the project has a significant positive impact in strengthening the strong and historical ties between the citizens of the two countries and will achieve their aspirations for rapprochement and ease of travel.
“We in the Kingdom of Bahrain renew the call to start bilateral talks between the two sides in accordance with the mechanisms agreed upon in the Al-Ula statement,” he said.
In this regard, the official referred to the invitation extended by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 11, 2021 to its Qatari counterpart to start bilateral talks, and to the second invitation sent on February 22, 2021.
Bahrain has always affirmed its sincere intentions to enhance Gulf cohesion, and stressed the importance of consolidating unified and integrated Gulf action for the benefit of the peoples of the Council.
Based on this principled position, he initiated and renewed his call to the State of Qatar to start bilateral talks on outstanding issues and issues between the two countries in order to activate the Al-Ula statement, which emphasized the strengthening of the joint Gulf action process.
This invitation would strengthen brotherly ties and pave the way for the completion of major vital projects between the two countries.
