Dubai, March 26 (BUS): Country Grammer presented Hall of Fame coach Bob Baffert with victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.
Led by Frankie Dettori, Country Grammer edged the Life Is Good favorite by half a furlong from the finish and won by about 2 by 2 in the 1/4 mile (2000 metres) course at Medan.
Hot Rod Charlie finished second, while Japan’s Chuwa Wizard, last year’s runner-up, beat Life Is Good for third.
Life Is Good got off to a fast start and led the field home but it fizzled out when Dettori’s challenge came just in time.
Country Grammer, owned by Los Angeles-born Saudi investor Amr Zeidan, was the Saudi Cup runner-up in February after a nine-month break. It’s Dettori’s fourth win in the Dubai World Cup.
