BACA President praises Aga Khan Award for Architecture

Manama, July 7 (BNA) The President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, is attending the preparatory meetings for the 15th Aga Khan Award for Architecture (2020-2022), which opened today in Manama. Lisbon, Portugal.

The Aga Khan Award for Architecture will announce the winning projects for its fifteenth session in September.

The shortlist of candidates includes twenty projects from 16 countries, selected from 463 projects, including the “Manama Post Office Renovation” scheme.

“We are pleased to have the Kingdom of Bahrain as an ongoing part of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, after winning the Muharraq Rehabilitation Project Award,” she said.

She highlighted the renovation of the Manama Post Office, which reflects the importance of the capital as a civilizational and cultural center in Bahrain and the region.

She stressed the importance of the Aga Khan Award in promoting the beauty of Islamic architecture and pioneering projects in this field in various countries.

She stressed the need to focus on cultural dialogue in building bridges of communication between Arab and Islamic nations and peoples and the rest of the world.

Among the countries nominated for the Aga Khan Award this year are 7 Arab countries: Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine and Kuwait.
