Manama, November 8 (BNA) Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al-Buainain today issued Resolution (59) for the year 2022 establishing the Cybercrime Prosecution. Headed by the chief prosecutor, the newly established cybercrime commission will have a sufficient number of prosecutors.
It will investigate and eliminate information technology crimes, including crimes against systems, data, information, or any other means that have the ability to receive, send, process, store or retrieve data. It will also investigate crimes targeting communications and crimes of using electronic means, provided that its jurisdiction in these crimes extends to the rest of the Kingdom’s territories.
The Public Prosecutor assigned the Cybercrime Prosecution in coordination with the Family and Child Prosecution to monitor, study and analyze crimes against children using information technology means, and to develop recommendations to combat abuses and avoid their recurrence, in addition to providing psychological and social support to child victims.
The Cybercrime Prosecution was also assigned to follow up on all cases before the courts and to review and study judgments issued in coordination with the Appeals Prosecution.
It is also required to submit a semi-annual report to the Public Prosecutor on its work and the progress of investigations in it, provided that it includes the latest methods and means of committing cyber crimes.
It will also coordinate with the relevant authorities to develop work in the field of combating cybercrime, monitor physical and technical evidence, and submit the necessary legislative proposals to enhance monitoring procedures and investigation capabilities, and ensure the effectiveness of law enforcement and prosecution for this type of crime. .
The Attorney General had previously issued decisions establishing several specialized trials that contributed to achieving prompt justice, including the Human Trafficking Prosecution, the Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Prosecution, the Tax Evasion Crimes Unit, and the Drug Crimes Unit.
