At least 3 killed, 213 hurt after fresh quake hits southern Türkiye

Ankara, Feb. 21 (BNA): The Turkish Interior Minister said that at least three people were killed and 213 others were injured after another earthquake hit Hatay province in southern Turkey on Monday evening.

“Three of our compatriots lost their lives, one in the Antakya region, the other in the Defne region, and the other in the Samandag region,” Suleyman Soylu said in a press statement, according to the Anadolu Agency.

He added that search and rescue efforts are underway at three locations.

At least 32 aftershocks have been recorded so far, according to the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD).

The disaster and emergency management said the 6.4-magnitude quake occurred at around 8.04 pm local time (17:04 GMT) in the Defne district of Hatay.

It was followed by a 5.8-magnitude aftershock three minutes later. The epicenter was in the Samandag district of Hatay.

The earthquakes come just two weeks after the earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit the city of Kahramanmaras.

Another 10 provinces were hit by deadly earthquakes – Hatay, Gaziantep, Malatya, Sanliurfa, Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye and Elazig.

More than 13 million people were affected by the disaster, and the death toll now stands at more than 41,000, according to the latest official figures.
