Arsenal-Tottenham match in Premier League postponed

London, Jan. 15 (BNA) The English Premier League on Saturday approved Arsenal’s request to cancel the derby match in north London against Tottenham Hotspur due to a shortage of top players.

“We know how important this match is to our fans around the world,” Arsenal said of the decision to postpone Sunday’s match.

It was accessed because Arsenal have fewer players than required – 13 on the field and one goalkeeper – due to a combination of COVID-19 cases, injuries and away players on international assignments at the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Arsenal recently decided to allow players out on loan and suspended one player at Granit Xhaka. In the latest Arsenal update, there weren’t many coronavirus-related absences for this game.

An Associated Press report said this is the 21st Premier League game that has been postponed since December 12, mainly due to players having to isolate.

A shortage of Burnley players due to coronavirus cases and injuries has led to the postponement of their match against Leicester this weekend.

Two weekend matches in the Women’s Premier League have been postponed due to the virus outbreak.

The FA, which runs the WSL, announced on Saturday that the match between Arsenal and Reading on Sunday had been called off after Reading requested it be postponed.

The English Football Association postponed, on Friday, the Chelsea-Everton match scheduled for Sunday, due to cases of HIV infection and injuries at Everton.
