INDIANAPOLIS Feb 17 (US): Therese Halliburton leaned on Tristan Thompson for advice when the two traded in Indiana last week.

On Wednesday night, the team members celebrated with one final performance together, the Associated Press reports.

Hallibotron scored 21 points and 14 assists, Thompson finished with a season-high 17 points, and the Pacers beat the Washington Wizards 113-108 in Thompson’s last game with Indiana.

“It was fun while it lasted,” coach Rick Carlisle said before announcing Thompson’s waiver Thursday. “I wouldn’t mind publicizing it because it’s a rare opportunity to thank a man in front of his teammates and he played really well tonight.”

Thompson is expected to sign with the Chicago Bulls.

For the Pacers, it was also a rare victory dance. They ended their seven worst losing streak of the season with their first win in February. They defeated an opponent from the Eastern Province for the first time since December 16.

Terry Taylor added 18 points and nine rebounds for Indiana. But Halliburton and Thompson, who were teammates in Sacramento before coming to Indiana, played key roles on one night when there were only eight players.

“It’s a hell of a way out,” Halliburton said, referring to Thompson. “He was hemming tonight, he was really good in the pocket. I thought he put in a really good game.”

Quintavius Caldwell Pope led the Wizards with 27 points. Kyle Kuzma finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds to match his best season with six three-pointers, while Washington lost for the fourth time in six games. Kirstapps Porsenges continued to sit with bruising to his right knee, as coach Wes Unseld Jr. Porsenges was ruled out in Thursday’s game against Brooklyn.

With both teams starting the day after the partial streak of play in the round in the Eastern Conference, and the long break imminent, the game was, predictably, lacking in energy.

Indiana seemed to take over when he scored six straight points to lead 76-63 late in the third quarter. But Washington cut the lead steadily, closing to 86-82 early in the fourth and eventually making it 95-94 when Caldwell Pope made a triple pointer with 5:18 remaining.

But Indiana hit back with six straight points and after Caldwell Bob made back-to-back baskets to make it two-pointers in the last 90 seconds, O’Shea Brisset’s dipping 21.3 seconds before the finish helped Indiana shut down.

“You never want to fail but you always want to fight and give yourselves a chance,” Unseld said. “We didn’t play great but we played well enough to give ourselves a chance and stay in it.”

BROGDON UPDATE

Injuries have kept Pacers goalkeeper Malcolm Brogdon off the bench in all but three matches since December 15. Carlisle is still hopeful that Brogdon will return from his right Achilles tendon when play resumes after the All-Star break.

“He continues to make good progress and hopefully he will be ready after the All-Stars end,” Carlisle said. “Nothing is certain, but we’ll see. With seven or eight more days, we hope he’s ready to go.”

“That number, 74 points, you’re not going to win many games most nights,” Unseld said, referring to Indiana’s total points in the paint.
