Arsenal 8 points clear, commanding Premier League title race

Manama, Jan. 15 (BNA): Eight points in the English Premier League, playing the freest football in England, is now putting its fiercest rivals in front of its fans. For Arsenal, this season could hardly get any better.

Sunday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur left no doubt about the dominant force in north London.

And it’s becoming increasingly difficult to dispute that Arsenal are the best team in the country, having secured 47 points from a possible 54 and rising to the best position the club has been in all season in their quest for their first league title since the undefeated “Invincibles” of 2003- 2004.

Arsenal held an eight-point lead for a few days at the start of the month, but second-placed Manchester City had a game in hand at the time. Now both have played the same number of matches – 18 out of a possible 38 – and City are struggling to keep up with the leaders.

Mikel Arteta’s first-half display was irrepressible, with Bukayo Saka running down the right and playing a part in both goals, according to the Associated Press.

It was a cross that deflected from the English wing and was hit by Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in the near goal in the 14th minute.

Saka then broke forward in the 36th minute and slotted a ball inside captain Martin Odegaard, who fired a low shot from 25 metres.
