Arabian Gulf University promotes healthy lifestyles to combat diabetes

Manama, Nov. 28 (BNA): The Arabian Gulf University in Saar organized a campaign to highlight the health risks resulting from diabetes and promote healthy lifestyles. The campaign was coordinated with the Deanship of Student Affairs and Family Medicine at the Arabian Gulf University, College of Postgraduate Studies, in cooperation with King Abdullah Medical City.

Students from the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, master’s students in family medicine and consultant physicians participated in the WHO-supported campaign. Family Medicine Consultant, Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Dr. Fatima Habash, stressed the necessity of following a healthy diet and practicing physical activity continuously to maintain weight and a healthy lifestyle to reduce the spread of chronic diseases.

She pointed out that the prevalence of diabetes in Bahrain, the Gulf and the world has increased significantly in recent years, noting that most cases are of the second type, which can be prevented by adhering to physical activity and following a balanced diet. And she warned of the dangers that may lead to a deterioration in the health condition, calling for a periodic examination that is available in primary health care centers, hospitals, and the University Medical Center at the Arabian Gulf University.
