Anthony scores season-best 33, Magic rallies past Jazz

ORLANDO, FL, Nov. 8 (BUS): Cole Anthony scored 10 points from a season high of 33 in the fourth quarter and made a 24-11 game close that helped the Orlando Magic Rally beat the Utah Jazz 107-100 Sunday night.

Late by as much as 13 points in the third quarter and low 89-81 with eight minutes to go, Anthony warmed up and got plenty of help from RJ Hampton and Wendell Carter Jr. The Magic ended a two-game losing streak. Orlando also picked up a five-game slip against the Jazz going back three seasons, according to the Associated Press.

“The team just came in and really fought tonight,” said Anthony, who topped his best performance the previous season with 32 points and scored 24 of 33 points in the second half. “Just a big shout out to the team because that was a good (win) against a really good team.”

Carter scored 22 points and 15 rebounds. Hampton scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter. Hampton put 3 pointers in 21 seconds to play Orlando ahead 105-100 and win.

“It was a broken play, the ball was stumbling all over the place and they ended up taking it to (Hampton),” Magic coach Jamal Mosley said. “He confidently stepped in to take the shot. Having the desire to take that shot, it was phenomenal.”

Donovan Mitchell scored 21 points and Rudy Gobert added 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Jazz who lost for the second time on such nights. Royce O’Neill scored 14 points and had seven rebounds.

Lagging 28-15 after a quarter and 15 points a second, Utah appeared to have dominated the game with a 70-47 lead over the second and third quarters. However, Utah had a score of 32-15 in the final period and finished only 8 of 42 out of a 3-point range.

“If there’s a narrative that says we take bad photos, I wouldn’t agree with that,” said jazz coach Quinn Snyder. “Captures, that’s what we’re missing. This is where we’ve been at our best, and I hope these things will correct themselves over time.”

Anthony made 13 of 20 shots and 5 of 10 three-pointers for the Magic, who won their first home win in five games this season.

Utah was playing less than 24 hours after losing 118-115 in Miami. The Jazz had to put a lot of energy into that game, going up 19 down in the last five minutes and only losing after Mitchell missed the equalizer pointer.

Utah missed 18 of the first 20 3-point shots and fell into an early 15-point hole. Still swarming to snatch lead 52-50 half of the first half.

Two nights after making nine turnovers in the fourth quarter in a loss to San Antonio, recent period magic blossomed as Mosley earned his first home win.

“We talked about that this is where the lessons are learned,” Mosley said. “The last match we had in the rallies and we didn’t give ourselves a chance. We spoke at the caucus that we had been here before and it was about how we responded. I am very proud of these people for their response.”

For baby brother

Sinking the triple pointer, Hampton turned around and stared at the crowd. “I was actually looking at my little brother[Ryan],” Hampton said. “It’s funny because he says I don’t make enough 3 seconds.”
