Work summary

responsibilities
• Investigate cases of potential anti-money laundering and/or suspicious financial activity with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective monitoring of the activities of merchants in connection with the detection and reporting of suspicious activities, including potential crimes of money laundering and terrorist financing.
• To exercise excellent independent judgment and discretion when making decisions or recommendations with respect to each alert/case investigation.
• Ability to work efficiently with attention to detail in investigations, analysis and writing narrative style reports designed for delivery to regulators.
• Ensure that the external SAR is properly prepared and submitted to law enforcers in accordance with the requirements of local regulations.
• Respond promptly to regulatory requests related to suspicious activity, anti-money laundering or counter-terrorism.
• Work with peer managers to capitalize on best practices, understand new trends and contribute to the implementation of processes, tools and platform enhancement opportunities.
• Establish relationships with other leaders and managers in other business units and support teams, throughout risk, underwriting, compliance, and the broader organization, to influence excellent information flow and feedback on process impacts, policy and product changes.
• Suggest control improvements, enhancements, and simplifications where appropriate.
• Demonstrate the leadership needed to ensure team goals are achieved.
• Participate in special cross-functional projects designed to deliver results while managing significant risk and business impact.
• Participate in the development of the strategic direction of the SAR/AML program while regularly assessing and leading the performance and effectiveness of the program, to review program status and set short-term goals for improvements/standards as needed.

Basic qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, legal, justice or a similar field. Relevant experience of at least 2+ years. Have good knowledge of financial crime investigation, as well as knowledge of local AML/CFT regulations and sanctions.
• At a minimum, an understanding of underwriting, KYC, AML or equivalent regulations.
• Strong understanding of fraud risk management practices, as well as practices of preventing, detecting, addressing and reporting fraud within financial institutions.
• Knowledge of merchant payment processing, in particular operational risks and processes.
• Demonstrate the ability to analyze large amounts of data in order to make informed, risk-based assessments and conclusions.
• Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate constructive challenges/new ideas, and to accurately, concisely, clearly and quickly synthesize complex information to all levels of the organization.
• Ability to understand opposing viewpoints on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints.
• Ability to analyze complex data, draw meaningful conclusions, and make comprehensive business recommendations. Strong collaboration skills and ability to build rapport with members of other departments.
• Strong working knowledge of external systems and software applications (Internet, Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
• Arabic with good command of written and spoken English.

qualifications preferred
• Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or any equivalent field.
• 3+ years of relevant experience. CAME / CAMS certificate or equivalent.
