Ambassador to US highlights Bahrain elections in article for The National Interest

Washington, November 9 (BNA) The American “National Interest” magazine published an opinion piece by Bahrain’s ambassador to the United States, Sheikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa.

The article titled “The Kingdom of Bahrain Heads to the Polls” highlights the approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in promoting respect for the principles of democracy and human rights and affirming the Kingdom’s commitment to protecting the environment, pluralism and humanity. democracy.

And based on the directives of His Majesty King Hamad, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the ambassador explained that the Kingdom is preparing to vote in the parliamentary elections for the sixth legislative term.

He referred to the record number of women candidates for parliamentary seats, which confirms the opportunities available to enhance women’s representation in politics.

Sheikh Abdullah also referred to the 2018 elections, with a 67% turnout, which confirms the success of His Majesty King Hamad’s approach.

The attendance of voters from all sects and sects was reflected in the election of Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Sheikh Abdullah reviewed the effective role of the Bahraini Parliament and indicated that it was supporting the comprehensive development process of the government and strengthening democracy.

He also touched on the similarities between the Bahraini Parliament and the US Congress in putting economic issues at the top of their priorities.

Sheikh Abdullah indicated that the date of the elections for Bahrainis abroad coincided with the midterm elections for the US Senate and House of Representatives, pointing to the voters’ awareness of the importance of exercising their civil and democratic rights in both countries.

He said that the elections will play a role in promoting the development process in the two countries.
