Alternative Sentencing enters second phase in Bahrain

Manama, April 5 (BNA): The Alternative Sentences Program has entered its second phase, which is the Open Prisons Program, said the Director General of Implementation of Sentences and Alternative Sentences, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa.

He pointed out that the Open Prisons Program is a milestone in the Alternative Sentences Law, which is a major development in the criminal justice system within the comprehensive development led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

He stressed the importance of the program in contributing to the development of the criminal justice system and supporting national efforts to promote human rights.

Sheikh Khaled said that there is continuous coordination with the Public Prosecution and a list of beneficiaries will be submitted to the execution judge.

He added that the process aims to gradually integrate the convicts into society.

He pointed out that “this phase, which is being implemented in the open prisons building, focuses on developing the beneficiaries’ self-reliance, enhancing their confidence, cognitive and professional abilities, and their positive participation in all aspects of life.”

The program also aims to assist beneficiaries in setting up projects and integrating them into the labor market, highlighting cooperation in this regard between the Ministry of Interior, INJAZ Bahrain, and Nasser Center for Vocational Training.
