Alba hosts delegation of Bahrain Association of Banks to further ESG goals

Manama, June 12 (BNA) Aluminum Bahrain Company (Alba) met with the Bahrain Association of Banks.

Ali El Baqali, CEO of Alba, presented six priority areas and initiatives in the ESG Roadmap – decarbonization, green energy and aluminum, circular economy and secondary aluminium, employee welfare, collaboration, partnership and transparency, and communications and due diligence.

“Alba, a corporate activist in environmental, social and corporate governance, charts its journey to meet Bahrain’s net zero emissions by 2060,” Al Baqali said.

“We believe that small businesses, when multiplied by millions of stakeholders, can have a greater impact, and collectively is the only correct option to achieve our nation’s goals under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and we believe that the Bahrain Association of Banks will play An important role in Alba’s path in the field of environmental, social and corporate governance.”

The CEO of BBK, Dr. Waheed Al-Qassem, said that this visit comes within the framework of the association’s commitment to provide an effective link between its members from various financial and banking institutions and economic institutions.

He said, “BisB appreciates the role that Alba plays in contributing significantly to the GDP and creating rewarding job opportunities for citizens, while supporting the economy and development of the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

“In terms of implementing the best environmental and governance models, the financial and banking institutions in Bahrain have many pioneering experiences that can be shared with Alba which includes sustainable development, green finance and other goals clearly defined in the Central Bank of Bahrain Financial Services Sector Development Strategy 2022-2026.”

He added that the high-level meeting with ALBA enhances the strong cooperation between the two sides in the field of environmental, social and institutional governance and other areas of joint cooperation.

Alba will reach out to other stakeholder groups that will impact the sustainability of its operations after the ESG Roadmap for the Company’s employees and banks has been introduced.
