Alba, BAPCO join forces to foster green and sustainable industrial development

Manama, February 6 (BNA) In an initiative that is the first of its kind, two giant industrial companies in Bahrain have joined forces, Aluminum Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) and the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco), to share knowledge and collaborate in implementation. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives of mutual interest through a Memorandum of Understanding signed today.

The MoU was signed by Alba CEO – Ali Al Baqali, and Bapco CEO – Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery in the town of Awali, and was attended by Amin Sultan, Head of Energy Department at Alba, Acting Executive Vice President and Project Manager for BMP – Hafez. Al-Qassab and other officials of the two companies.

In addition to due diligence on projects of mutual interest that are in line with the commitments made by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), the MoU will establish the platform for a feasibility study on Benefiting from the current and future developments on the surplus hydrogen that will be supplied from Bapco to Alba as well as forming a joint working group to implement the agreed goals between the two companies.

Commenting on the occasion, Alba CEO Ali Al Baqali said:

“An alliance of this kind, between two of Bahrain’s largest companies, is a commitment to join forces to embrace sustainable industrial development as we race to achieve net zero emissions in Bahrain by 2060. It is only united under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, that we will be able to make a difference, addressing climate change by building resilient infrastructure for a greener and more sustainable future. I also take this opportunity to thank Alba Chairman Sheikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa for leading us the way that we do at Alba.

Dr. Abdul Rahman Jawahery, CEO of Bapco, added:
