Douala, Jan. 8 (BNA): A team in the Africa Cup of Nations will have to play a match provided that it has at least 11 team members who have tested positive for coronavirus.
Even if there is no goalkeeper available, a player must play on the field with the goal of achieving a match, provided there are a total of 11 players.
“A team without at least 11 players will be considered to have lost the match 0-2,” the Confederation of African Football said in an update to the COVID-19 regulations released on Saturday.
Regulators, however, say they have the right to “make the appropriate decision” in “exceptional cases”.
Several teams have been affected by the coronavirus in preparation for the tournament in Cameroon that kicks off on Sunday.
The Confederation of African Football also confirmed that teams will be able to make five substitutions per match during the tournament.
