LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (U.S.): Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch, Carrie Bradshaw’s girlfriend on TV show “Sex and the City” and its movie sequels, has died, his son announced Tuesday. He was 57 years old.
“I love you so much Dad. Rest in peace and I am so glad you shared all your adventures with me and were able to achieve so much,” Nathan Garson wrote on Instagram. “I’m very proud of you.”
His son added, “I was always the toughest, funniest and smartest person I’ve ever known.”
Details of his death were not disclosed. Messages seeking comment from his representatives were not immediately returned, the Associated Press reports.
He portrayed Garson Blatch, the talent agent and best loyal and elegant friend of Sarah Jessica Parker Curry for six seasons. He reprized his role in “Sex and the City” and “Sex and the City 2”, and was filming a revival of an upcoming HBO Max series called “And Just Like That.”
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbs on the series, expressed her sadness in a tweet.
“We all loved him and loved working with him. He was endlessly funny on screen and in real life.” “He was a source of light, friendship, and artwork tradition. He was a brilliant professional – always.”
“I couldn’t have had a smarter TV partner,” tweeted Mario Cantone, who played Garson’s husband on “Sex and the City.” “I am devastated and written with sadness.”
“You were a gift from the gods,” he added.
Willy Garson was in life, as on screen, a loyal friend and a shining light to everyone in his world.
“He created one of the most beloved characters from the HBO Gods and has been a member of our family for nearly 25 years,” a statement on HBO’s Facebook page read. “We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Born in Highland Park, New Jersey, William Garson Passamant began studying acting at the age of 13 at the Actors Institute in New York. Hundreds have appeared on television and in motion pictures.
Besides “Sex and the City”, he is perhaps best known as Mozzie, a con man on the TV show “White Collar” and also had recurring roles in “NYPD Blue”, “Hawaii Five-0” and “Supergirl”. “
Garson, who has been an advocate for adoption agencies, adopted his son Nathan in 2009 and announced the adoption in an Instagram post in January that read: “Best day of my life. Always.”
