Aboubakar takes host Cameroon into knockouts at African Cup

Yaounde, January 13 (BNA): Cameroon captain Vincent Abubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi scored two goals to lead the hosts from 1-0 down in the fourth minute to defeat Ethiopia 4-1 on Thursday in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Cameroon became the first team to reach the playoffs with two wins from their first two matches, according to the Associated Press.

Ethiopian Dawa Hotesa Dokele stunned Olympic Stadium with the first goal.

But having come from behind to win their opening match against Burkina Faso, Cameroon once again managed to beat that early blow.

Ekambi equalized after four minutes and Cameroon have dominated ever since.

Abubakar put Cameroon in front with a powerful header in the 53rd minute and fell back to score the third goal two minutes later.

Ekambi made it 4-1 by whacking him inside a group of Ethiopian defenders and shooting into the lower left corner.

The Indomitable Lions lived up to their title and also hit the crossbar three times in the game.

Cameroon advanced from Group A, while Cape Verde and Burkina Faso will meet in the other group match later Thursday.

Aboubacar has four goals in the tournament after scoring two penalties in Cameroon’s opening 2-1 win over Burkina Faso.
