59th Franco-German Day marked

Manama, Jan. 22 (BNA) This year, France and Germany celebrate the 59th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty, a bilateral treaty and a major symbol of Franco-German friendship.

The French Ambassador to Bahrain, Jerome Cochard, confirmed that France and Germany, through this treaty, have addressed one of the most noble but also one of the most difficult challenges that can exist, which is peace building in the first stage, after many years of conflict and war.

“We have built, step by step, a lasting and structured cooperation. Nowadays, the cooperation has become a kind of ‘reflection’ as each country spontaneously seeks the views of the other on key issues,” said Ambassador Kochhar.

The Elysée Treaty came into being as an outgrowth of the interests that were not identical but reconcilable between France and Germany.

After two world wars that destroyed stability in Europe for nearly half a century, it was possible to jointly reaffirm the will to contribute to the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries as an indispensable step towards a united Europe.

German Ambassador to Bahrain Kai Buchmann said that the basic principle of cooperation between Germany and France is never to exclude others, but rather to remain open to all EU member states, to enhance cooperation with neighboring regions and serve as a model for how to cooperate. replace conflict.

“Every generation must renew their understanding of this friendship, which is why young people are so important to our collaboration,” he added.

The two ambassadors met for breakfast at the German residence, where they discussed their respective activities in Bahrain.
