5475 inmates benefits from alternative penalties programme

Manama, May 17 (BNA): Director General of Execution of Sentences and Alternative Sentences, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, said that 5,475 inmates have so far benefited from the application of the alternative punishment program.

He said that the rate of recidivism decreased to 2.2%, indicating that this indicates the success of the program.

Sheikh Khaled Ghada Hamed Habib, Secretary General of the Board of Grievances, was briefed on the developments of the program, services, facilities and training provided during her visit to the Open Prisons Complex.

Sheikh Khalid said that the open prisons program is an extension of the success of applying alternative punishments, and it is an implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The visit reviewed the objectives of the open prisons program as a means of supporting community security and upholding human rights values.

The Ombudsman expressed her appreciation for the efforts made in the open prison complex.
