51st ICT Governance Committee meeting discusses government procurement requests worth BD2 million

Manama, January 10 (BNA): Purchase requests from government agencies valued at about two million Bahraini dinars were discussed at the 51st meeting of the Information and Communications Technology Governance Committee headed by the CEO of the Information and e-Government Authority Muhammad Ali Al. The committee’s agenda covered a range of topics, such as providing the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) with the necessary technical infrastructure for smart meters, which read meters automatically without the need for field visits by meter readers, and providing functions for disconnecting and reconnecting.

The committee also reviewed the Ministry of Transport and Communications project related to the renewal of local and international system licenses, which are essential for the new postal systems as they allow access to the United Nations Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The issue of providing satellite services to Bahrain TV channels was also discussed at the Ministry of Information Affairs to ensure the continuity of broadcasting on an international level. The broadcast link helped the commission achieve savings equivalent to 25% of the base value of the contract. The broadcast bandwidth was reviewed by the ministry as they achieved a 25% reduction on the original price.

The meeting also dealt with providing high-performance computers to the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning to better serve its engineering requirements. In addition, the committee covered purchase requests related to upgrading information technology services in other government agencies and implementing the decisions issued by previous meetings.

Dean of the College of Information Technology at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Lamia Al Jasmi. Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Maryam Ibrahim Al-Hajri. Vice President of the Information and eGovernment Authority, Operations and Governance, Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al Mutawa; Economic Development Board Corporate Services Director Linda Mohamed Janahi. Representative of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ali Jassim Hammoud. Ali Al-Soufi, IT project management consultant. The event was also attended by the committee’s support team.
