5 for 5: Napoli beats Sampdoria 4-0 to extend perfect start

Rome, September 23 (U.S.): Five matches. Five wins. Victor Osimhen scored twice, Hirving Lozano assisted with three and Napoli shone in a 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Thursday to continue their perfect start to Serie A.

In pursuit of their first Serie A title since Diego Maradona led the team to its only championship in 1987 and 1990, Napoli returned to the top of the standings, two points behind defending champions Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Sampdoria’s draw with Inter this month was seen as a potential hurdle against Napoli, but Luciano Spalletti’s side dominated from the start, according to the Associated Press.

Osimene started things off when he sent Lorenzo Insigne’s cross at the far post, having already come close minutes earlier.

Passes from Lozano and Insigne set up the second for Napoli for Fabian Ruiz from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Then Osimhen only needed one touch to redirect Lozano’s pass from the center of the area.

Lozano also had an assist when he bombed Piotr Zielinski in another match for Napoli, in a play started by newly acquired midfielder Andre Anguisa, on loan from Fulham.
