Madrid’s emergency services said 51 fans received medical care overnight for burns from flares, falls, dizziness and bruising.


The official celebration began on Sunday at 6pm local time when the winning Real Madrid players made their traditional visit to Almudena Cathedral to present the trophy to Madame Virgen Almudena, patroness of Madrid.


After passing through City Hall and local government offices to meet with the mayor and governor, players arrived in an open-top bus in crowded Cibeles, where about 400,000 fans were waiting around the famous fountain.


They stayed there for over an hour as Real Madrid captain Marcelo took on the traditional responsibility of “crowing” the statue.
