4 US Marines die in NATO drill when Osprey crashes in Norway

Helsinki, March 19 (BNA) Four US marines were killed when their Osprey plane crashed in a Norwegian town in the Arctic Circle during NATO exercises.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere wrote on Twitter that they had died in the plane crash Friday night. The cause is still under investigation, but Norwegian police have reported bad weather in the area.

The Marines, assigned to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, were participating in a NATO exercise called Cold Response.

The aircraft was an MV-22B Osprey. “Its crew consisted of four people and were on a training mission in the county of Nordland” in northern Norway, the armed forces said in a statement.

It was en route north to Bodo, where it was due to land just before 6 p.m. Friday, according to the Associated Press.
