The French parliament approved the new law at the weekend, and the measure is expected to come into force in the coming days, after the Constitutional Council released its assessment on Friday, according to the Associated Press.

The so-called vaccine permit “is a new step in our strategy to encourage (vaccinate) and ensure maximum protection. It is already producing its effects,” said government spokesman Gabriel Attal.

About 92% of French adults – more than 48 million people – have already been fully vaccinated, and 94% have received at least one injection.

He stressed that “France is now in the leading European group with regard to its vaccination campaign.”

The new law requires full vaccination to enter restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters and other recreational and sports facilities, and to take trains and domestic flights between regions.

This applies to everyone aged 16 or over. The government said some exceptions were planned for those who had recently recovered from COVID-19.
