Young Venezuelans attempt to break Guinness record for largest orchestra

Caracas, November 15 (BNA): Venezuela on Saturday attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest orchestra, with 12,000 musicians playing together a classical piece for more than five minutes.

Reuters reported that the attempt by the country’s national system of youth and children orchestras, known as “the System”, would break the Russian record set two years ago and be judged by the Guinness Book of Records in the next 10 days.

The System includes 350,000 children and youth of its rank, playing in a network of 180 orchestras.

The Saturday musicians, dressed in white, played Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave for 10 minutes at the Military Academy in Caracas.

“It is a pleasure to be in the official attempt via video,” said Susanna Reyes, an expert at Guinness World Records.

The current record was set in Saint Petersburg, when 8,097 musicians played together.
