Works Minister unveils development projects in Northern Area Municipality

Manama, March 5 (BNA) Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Issam bin Abdullah Khalaf said that sanitation projects are among the priorities of the Ministry of Works and the Government, indicating that work is underway to complete the project. Khalaf indicated that the old areas of the Kingdom have been fully connected to the sewage network, adding that most of the new areas have also been connected to the sewage networks, and work is underway to connect the rest of the areas.

This came during the minister’s speech during his meeting with the president and members of the northern region’s municipal council, with the participation of a number of senior officials from both sides.


He praised the continuous support of the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects and the Ministry of Finance and National Economy for the projects of the Ministry of Works.


He pointed out that the capacity of the sewage network is steadily increasing to keep pace with the urban development in the Kingdom, citing the project to raise the capacity of the Tubli sewage treatment plant from 200,000 cubic meters to 400,000 cubic meters per day. He also revealed the ministry’s plans to provide sewage tankers.


The minister explained that work is underway to launch a number of projects such as roads and car parks, in addition to service projects such as central markets, parks and walkways.


He also shed light on the national plan for afforestation, and stressed the important role played by the municipal councils for its success, praising the Cabinet’s approval of a memorandum aimed at doubling the number of trees in Bahrain by 2035.

In this regard, he affirmed his keenness to implement the continuous directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to increase green spaces throughout the Kingdom.


The Chairman of the Municipal Council of the Northern Region, Ahmed Al-Kooheji, expressed his appreciation for the level of continuous cooperation between the Council and the Ministry of Works, noting the Ministry’s support for the development and service projects of the Local Municipal Council.


He also praised the minister’s continuous follow-up to the local municipal council’s proposals and observations, which embody the strategic objectives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s comprehensive development project.
