Manama, March 10 (BNA) The Minister of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Issam bin Abdullah Khalaf inaugurated the first virtual 3D exhibition of the Al-Fateh Expressway Development Project.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary for Works Affairs Ahmed Abdel Aziz Al-Khayyat, the Chairman of the Capital Municipality Saleh Tarada, the Director of Operations and Traffic Control Department at the General Traffic Department, Colonel Adel Al-Dosari, and a number of officials.
Speaking at the press conference, the minister praised the government’s support for infrastructure projects and the development of a strategic road network to reduce traffic jams and strengthen the country.
Bahrain operates in accordance with Vision 2030 to design, implement and manage the road network to provide safe, smooth and efficient traffic for all road users, and to support an infrastructure that incorporates the latest standards and guidelines.
He stressed the continuation of projects to develop major intersections, pointing out that the Al Fateh Expressway development project, which was launched in 2018, is proceeding as planned.
He said that many ground services that hampered the main works of expanding and developing the Al-Fateh Expressway have been diverted, in addition to the recently completed construction of the main sewage line extending from Juffair to Al-Ghuraifa.
The Ministry has been working since April 2021 on the main works of the project, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
The total cost of all phases of the project is BD40.5 million, which also includes the design and site supervision contract.
The project aims to improve the capacity of Al Fateh Expressway by 61%, increasing it from 87,000 vehicles per day in its current condition to 140,000 vehicles per day once the project is completed.
The ministry has completed the construction of all the pillars and columns for the upper bridge, and that the construction process of the upper bridge is proceeding according to the program scheduled to open to traffic in the last quarter of this year 2022.
The construction of stilts for the left-turn flyover for traffic heading towards Prince Saud Al-Faisal Expressway has begun, in conjunction with the traffic diversions required to provide work space.
The left-handed flyover is scheduled to open to traffic in the first quarter of 2023. In addition, cut foundation work is underway in preparation for the underpass excavation and structural works.
The Al Fateh Expressway development project extends from the entrance to Al Maarad Street in the north to Mina Salman intersection in the south.
It includes the development of Sheikh Duaij Junction, Markaz Al-Fateh Junction and Dulab Junction with the aim of providing smooth traffic in both directions.
The main works of the project include the expansion and upgrading of the Al-Fateh Expressway to four lanes in each direction at more than 3 km, and the construction of a tunnel with three lanes in both directions with a length of 595 meters at the intersection of the Gulf Hotel to the north-south traffic, in addition to a signal-controlled intersection on ground level.
The project also includes the construction of a flyover in one direction to the left with two lanes for people coming from Manama from the north on Al-Fateh Expressway towards Prince Saud Al-Faisal Street.
The intersection of Al Fateh Expressway with Sheikh Al Duaij Street will be removed to provide free traffic at ground level.
The project also includes the construction of a flyover with two lanes near the entrance to Al Fateh Corniche for the traffic heading north to turn towards the south.
Al-Fateh Road is considered the main artery of traffic for eastern Manama, and it is an integral part of the ring road in the capital, Manama, which, when completed, aims to provide free traffic flow around the capital.
The ring road starts from Sheikh Isa bin Salman Road through the intersection of the Bahrain Map, Umm Al Hassam and Mina Salman, passing through Al Fateh Expressway and the North Manama Bridge, passing through Bahrain Bay and the Financial Harbor, relieving traffic congestion on the King Faisal Expressway.
The main works of the project were awarded to a joint venture between Nass Contracting Company (Bahrain) and Huta Hegerfeld Saudi Limited (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) by the Tender Board for a contract amount of BD29,662,315, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
The three-year instruction project, which was given the go-ahead in April 2021, is being overseen by Parsons Engineering Consultants.
Then the minister revealed the virtual tour, which includes a virtual three-dimensional model of the Al-Fateh Expressway development project and various multimedia that include an overview of the project, its strategic dimensions, its impact on the national economy, traffic statistics and current and upcoming traffic transformations. , pictures of construction progress and completion percentage, and a section dedicated to the latest news and coverage that will be updated regularly.
The tour depicts a modern and virtual approach designed using highly interactive technology with the aim of public engagement, enhancing project communications, and keeping highway users closely informed of the latest developments in the project.
