Manama, November 1 (BNA) A team from the Women’s Support Center of the Supreme Council for Women visited today the Children’s Correctional Court of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
The delegation was briefed on the building’s equipment and facilities designated to receive children and their families in a manner commensurate with the interests of children and taking into account the privacy and privacy of cases related to children, in accordance with the rights of the child stipulated in international charters and treaties and relevant national laws.
During the visit, the team of the Supreme Council for Women was briefed on the mechanism of the sessions conducted by the competent judge, and the basic role of the social and psychological experts who were appointed by Decree No. 82 of 2021 issued by the Islamic Minister of Justice. Affairs and Endowments.
The ministerial decision defines the role of experts before the restorative justice courts and the Judicial Committee for Childhood and their work system in studying and evaluating the child’s condition and the motives that led to the commission of the crime. A judicial ruling is issued based on their findings.
The Children’s Restorative Justice Courts were established by Law No. 4/2021 regarding the issuance of the Restorative Justice and Protection of Children from Abuse Law. They are charged with adjudicating criminal cases committed by children over the age of 15 at the time the crime was committed.
The Women’s Support Center develops policies and coordinates initiatives with the relevant authorities in order to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and programs aimed at protecting children even before resorting to the courts in order to ensure the interests of the child in line with the principles embedded in the Restorative Justice Law, and applicable legal standards.
