Wolves survive late rally to beat Southampton 3-1 in EPL

London, January 15 (BNA): Adama Traore scored his first goal of the season, and Wolverhampton survived a late confrontation to defeat Southampton 3-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Raul Jimenez scored a penalty in the 37th minute and Captain Connor Cody headed the net in the 59th minute before a tense finish at Molino Stadium.

With the Wolves seemingly in control, Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse made it 2-1 in the 84th minute when he sent in a powerful free kick into the top right corner from 30 yards (90 ft).

Romain Perot almost equalized after five minutes but I saw him hit the crossbar, according to the Associated Press.

With Southampton pushing for the equalizer, Traore had plenty of space on the left flank to take a pass and beat goalkeeper Fraser Forster with a low shot down the right.

Corner in the first minute of injury time. It was Wolves’ third win in their last four league games, boosting the eighth-placed team’s hopes of qualifying for a place in Europe.

The visitors had been hoping to capitalize on their biggest win of the season, 4-1 at Brentford on Tuesday, but they remain 12th.
