Wildfire in southwestern France contained, authorities say

Paris, September 15 (BNA) The forest fires that broke out since Monday in southwestern France led to the containment of more than 3,700 hectares of land in the Médoc grape-growing region, local authorities said today, Thursday.

“The fire has made no progress. No new areas burned. No new evacuations,” the governor’s office said in its morning update, adding that nearly 1,000 firefighters battled the blaze through the night.

The fire, which destroyed four homes and several buildings, prompted authorities to evacuate more than 1,800 people earlier this week.

France, like the rest of Europe, had to contend with heat waves and droughts during the summer that caused multiple wildfires across the continent.
