WHO grants Dr. Mariam Al Jalahma the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion

Manama, May 26 (BNA): Dr. Maryam Athbi Al-Jalahma, CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority, has received the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion.

The World Health Organization presented the award to Dr. Al-Jalahma in recognition of her efforts in promoting health over the past 30 years.

The Geneva-based organization has also acknowledged its decades-long role in promoting maternal, child and adolescent health, combating smoking, and chronic and infectious diseases, whether through its positions, work within the region, or through its voluntary work efforts in the field of health. education.

The awards ceremony was held on the sidelines of the sixty-seventh session of the WHO General Assembly, in the presence of health ministers, heads of state delegations and participants at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.

During the ceremony, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, presented the award to Dr. Al-Jalahma, in the presence of the President of the World Health Assembly.

Dr. Al-Jalahma expressed her pride in receiving the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion.

“I dedicate the award to all health workers, including doctors, nurses and public health officials, in my country and around the world, who have dedicated their lives to ensuring that people live healthy lives.”

She added, “This award is not only a recognition of our hard work, but also a testament to our dedication and passion to make a positive impact in the world.”

She pointed out that health promotion has always been at the heart of my work over the course of her 37 years of work in the health sector, whether as a doctor, manager, official or in her volunteer community work in the community.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Jalila Bint Al-Sayed Jawad Al-Sayed, congratulated Dr. Al-Jalahma on receiving the prestigious award, which is given to prominent personalities who have contributed to the promotion of health at the national and international levels.

She praised the efforts and contributions of Al-Jalahma during her tenure as a physician, media personality, physician trainer, member of the Shura Council, the National Institution for Human Rights and the executive body of the Council of Health Ministers in the GCC countries, as well as her efforts. at the level of the eastern Mediterranean region. in various areas of health promotion
