‘We lost our heads’: Inter beaten with controversial goal

Rome, October 16 (BNA) A controversial goal led to Inter Milan’s first defeat of the season in a 3-1 loss to Lazio in Serie A on Saturday.

Felipe Anderson scored a late goal while Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco was injured, according to the Associated Press.

The goal infuriated Inter but the rules say the referee should only interrupt play when there is a risk of serious injury, which it was not.

Inter players were demanding Lazio take the ball out of play when Anderson redirected a rebound with a shot from Ciro Immobile.

Then Sergej Milinkovic-Savic secured the three points for Lazio with a header in stoppage time as he lost Inter’s focus.

Immobile’s penalty kick was canceled by Ivan Perisic in the first half with a penalty kick on his part.

It was a bitter return to the Olympic Stadium for new Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi, who has coached Lazio for the past five seasons after also spending the bulk of his football career with the Romanian club.

Inzaghi admitted, “We lost our heads.” This should not happen, because the referee can continue to play and there were 10 minutes plus a stoppage. We should have kept playing.”

Inter remained in third place, four points behind perfection Napoli and two points behind unbeaten AC Milan. Napoli hosts Torino on Sunday. Milan played Hellas Verona late on Saturday.
