Vintage fighter plane crashes in Czech Republic

Berlin, Aug. 16 (BNA): An investigation has begun into the cause of the crash of a historic fighter plane from World War II in the border area between the Czech Republic and Germany..

A spokeswoman for the Karlovy Vary police headquarters said Monday that they are working with the Air Accident Investigation Bureau..

Drones and a 3D scanner are among the tools used to collect evidence.

The investigation is expected to take several weeks.

The plane – an RAF Hawker Hurricane Mk4 – crashed into a field near a family home in the eastern Podrad region during an air show in Al Shab on Sunday, according to the German news agency (dpa).

The pilot of the old plane was killed. A woman lying on the ground was slightly injured.

The air show was canceled after the accident. The plane belongs to a private aircraft museum in Prague Tocna.

Czech internet company owner Ivo Lukakovic expressed his dismay over the death of his pilot on Twitter on Monday. He was “looking at his number like a little kid” before the accident.

The single-seat helicopter was manufactured in 1942. It fought on the British side in Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia against German aircraft during World War II.

According to the Prague Museum, this was the last airworthy model of the Mk. Fourth variant of Hawker Hurricane.
