Villarreal hold Juve to draw despite lightning strike from debutant Vlahovic

Villarreal, February 23 (BNA): Dusan Vlahovic scored the second-fastest goal ever in his debut in the Champions League, as his team Juventus drew 1-1 with Villarreal in the first leg of the round of 16 on Tuesday.

The Serbian striker, who joined the Torino side from Fiorentina in January, needed just 33 seconds to hit a perfect cross, Reuters reported.

Juventus controlled the match until a defense error came in the 66th minute, giving Dani Parego the opportunity to score the equalizer.

Etienne Capoue spotted Parejo alone and without any control behind the defenders and sent a perfect pass over the top for the Spanish midfielder to curl into the net.

After the goal, Villarreal had two clear chances and could have gone further if the attackers had been more efficient.

“I have a sweet and sour taste in my mouth and I think we deserved more,” Kabwe told reporters.

“It’s not a bad result because the away goals rule is over. We’re confident we can go there and get the result we need to go forward.”

The 22-year-old Vlahovic lived up to expectations, posing a constant threat to Villarreal’s defense and hitting Jovec’s only two hits on target in the match. In the second half, late in the second half, goalkeeper Jeronimo Rulli made a great save.

Juventus striker Alvaro Morata said of Vlahovic: “He’s so young, it was his debut and he managed to score. That says it all about his identity.”

“One can only imagine his career in front of him. He is an extraordinary kid; in one week he has adapted perfectly to the club. He seems to have been with us for months now. We are happy to have him.”

Juventus could have finished the match with 10 men after a foul by midfielder Adrien Rabiot on Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, but the VAR made the controversial decision to allow a yellow card.
