US slaps terrorism sanctions on Hezbollah accountants, two companies

Washington, Dec. 2 (BNA): On Thursday, the Biden administration imposed terrorist sanctions on accountants and two companies in Lebanon that provide financial services to the armed group Hezbollah.

The Treasury Department announced that it would also sanction a third person for assisting Hezbollah, a US-designated foreign terrorist organization, in acquiring weapons, according to the Associated Press.

The sanctions target Adel Muhammad Mansour, the executive director of the “Al-Qard Al-Hassan” group affiliated with Hezbollah, which was previously sanctioned by the United States, as well as another company he works with, which is the Experts Company for Accounting, Auditing and Studies.

The sanctions also apply to the Audit and Accounting Firm and one of its representatives, Nasser Hassan Nasr, as well as Hassan Khalil, who the Treasury Department said was active in helping Hezbollah obtain weapons.

“The individuals and companies designated today have enabled Hezbollah’s financial apparatus to operate throughout Lebanon,” the Treasury Department said in a statement.

“Their public personas as professionals and financial institutions are just another way in which Hezbollah camouflages its abuse of the financial system to support its destabilizing agenda.”
